Laughing Gulls was established in 2014 by George MacLellan and Kerry Buckley, year round Nantucket educators of young people.

 

A mixed age group nature, art, and play-based camp for children ages 5 - 9 years old. George and Kerry ran their summer camp from 2014 - 2021 at The Nantucket Lighthouse School. In 2022 Laughing Gulls moved to their very own property! A serendipitous journey to maintaining the fabric of a small and special camp. With a maximum of 15 children per week, campers can build strong and positive relationships. They engage in a variety of activities that fulfill their natural need to play, grow, and learn. Summer, year round, and visiting children alike savoring their time together at Laughing Gulls Camp. It is not hard to see why we have returning campers year after year after year.

A little more about George and Kerry:

George has 30+ years’ experience working with children. He began his teaching at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. He has taught kindergarten and second through fourth grade at Nantucket Elementary School. George currently teaches fourth grade at Nantucket Intermediate School.

Kerry has 25+ years experience caring for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. She began substitute teaching in the early 1990’s at a home-based preschool, The Dandelion School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Small preschool settings focusing on the whole child has remained at the heart of her work. She was a teaching assistant at Montessori Children’s House Nantucket and is currently a co-teacher at Exploration Station preschool.

We know children are full of spirit, curiosity, energy and imagination. Our goal is to provide summer camp activities that tap these strong qualities. We hope to direct their energies toward crafts, stories, songs, games and adventures around our beautiful island.
